Adapted from the PMRS Charter
The Materials Research Society (MRS) is an international group with more than 13,000 members, over 25% of which are students. Because of the growing Princeton Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM) and Materials Certificate Program student involvement and interest regarding materials research has grown in the university. The MRS chapter in Princeton serves to supplement the growth and development of the University’s materials science programs and initiatives. We aim to expose younger students to the basic concept of materials research and to the professors involved in our community, and to increase undergraduate involvement in materials research and the larger academic community.
The group organizes several types of events:
“Cookies and Conversation” — provides students with the opportunity to have weekly informal chats with university faculty involved in materials related research
Lectures — professors are invited to speak about their research over dinner
Field Trips — we have planned visits with various organizations including DuPont, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the U.S. DOE Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and Shiseido
